ISSUE 5: FIRSTS-Can you believe it’s been one year since we first went live? The saying “time flies when you having fun” truly does apply in this instance-the year has had a lot of highs some lows and most definitely some learning curves. I remember our first launch and the stress that went into planning the event and the pride and joy in the team once all our hard work had paid off, I remember the first AfricaBe high tea event we hosted which took the AfricaBe brand to the next level, I remember our first team meeting brainstorming the first issue, I remember the first challenges, tears, rejection letters and most importantly the first email from a reader telling us how happy they were that a platform like this existed. I remember all this and I am proud of how far we have come.
In celebration of our first birthday we thought it appropriate that you share your firsts with us. Fashion editor Maryse share her first encounter with fashion with us, whilst Nigerian writer Eromo takes us through his first role as an editor. In our entrepreneur page we celebrate Africa’s richest man Dangote as well as the amazing work being done by social entrepreneurs Acha Leke and Fred Swaniker through the African Leadership Network.
